VOLUNTEERS

WHO: Volunteers for our organization are people who can read and have a genuine interest in helping others with various backgrounds (women, the poor, ethnic people, learning disabled, inmates, and children) improve their literacy skills (reading, writing, grammar, math, financial, health).  We desire people of all ages to be involved and do not discriminate.

WHAT: After completing tutor training, volunteers meet  with a learner/learners at a safe location to assist the learners with their individual literacy needs using various curriculum and resources for tutoring.

WHEN: Volunteers are required to meet 1-2 hours weekly at a time that is convenient to both volunteer and learner.

WHERE: Volunteers meet at a safe location that is convenient to both volunteer and learner.  These locations vary.  Some locations are libraries, schools, churches, senior centers, and/or community centers.

WHY: Volunteers are rewarded with the feeling of making a lasting positive influence not only on a learner but a community.  The individualized instruction that volunteers give produces self-confidence, awareness and knowledge for our learners which is necessary for these individuals to set goals, better themselves and be comfortable living in society.

HOW If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call our office at 1-866-405-7323 or email us at nwlit@centurytel.net.  In the future, we will also be providing an online form.  We will be excited to discuss the opportunity and help you help us accomplish our mission.
